Northern Red Oak
(Quercus rubra)

  • Deciduous

  • Height: 40-70 feet

  • Trunk Diameter: 2-3 feet

  • Bark: young trees are smooth and greenish brown while on older trees the bark is dark gray with a reddish coloration in the fissures

  • Leaves: alternate in pattern on the branch, 5-8 inches long and are dark green

  • Fruit: acorns which are 1 inch long

  • Indigenous name: asahqahawimus
